WMQ TT\ Logging
Moderator: [hopsala]. Under construction.
Before you do anything, read - WMQ TT \ Master (FAQ main).
This thread referres to WMQ logging issues, such as:
- How logging works in general.
- How to calculate necessary log space.
- Circular logging vs Linear logging.
- Primary and Secondary log files.
- Memory buffers, checkpoints, queue files.
- How WMQ logging treats persistent and non-persistent messages.
- Uncommited transactions.
- How to move logs and archiving.
Etc etc etc...
Do not post here, or on any TT unless you're a veteran MQSeries.net poster, and an expert WMQ administrator.
Any post consisting of anything but links will be deleted by the moderator. These threads were made for your benefit, do not abuse them!

About WMQ logging in general
- Primary/Secondary log files and log file size?
About secondary vs primary logs, linear vs circular.
- MQ Setup Question
A very good discussion on logging and backup in a production system, with circular/linear considerations.
- Does MQ keep two copies of a persistent message ??
An in-depth discussion on how logging works, in combination with memory buffers, checkpoints and queue files
- How the logging process works ?
An explanation about how MQ deals with persistent vs non-persistent messages, with some emphasis on UOWs.
- Calculation for sizing??
A very good discussion of how to calculate for log sizes, number of primary/secondary etc. Also explains checkpoints and recovery considerations.
- logging for really large messages with MQ 5.3
Explanation about how logging works, checkpoint conditions, and on how to setup logging for huge throughputs (1TB per day!)
- Persistent messages
Yet another explanation about how logging works, secondary/primary, queue files and UOW.
- WMQ5.3 WinXP / Queue Files - Research
An elaborate discussion about queue files, and some related info about logs
- MaxUncommitedMsgs Parm - Best Practices
An explanation of MaxUncommitedMsgs parameter, and about BATCHSZ performance in general.
- LogWriteIntegrity?
Explanation of this parameter, and how to decide which value to choose.
- WebSphere command to purge the logs
Linear log housekeeping support pacs.
These links concern distributed systems (unix, windows) and WMQ 5.3 if not mentioned otherwise; however, the basic logging mechanism is identical between in z/OS and other systems, other than a few nuances.
