after reading a few posts I realised that alot of people on here suffer the same problems I do

scenario

you install and configure MQ and or WBI and or Workflow as examples, platforms dont matter

you spend alot of time setting them up correctly, making sure the message flows / sets or interfaces work correctly

you test, fix, retest, stress test and all is fine

you go live

for a week or so all is good

then suddenly you get a phone call

MQ is not working

we cant get any data through

so you go into the office and look around

what do you find?

---------

well normally i find that the network admins are doing something and have disconnected a server

the application(s) have been upgraded and the appropriate bits have not been switched on!

No matter how oftern you tell a third party that they have to set conversion on in channels between platforms they dont do it

or even worse they have not started both ends of a channel or named it wrong - which happened when we were not allowed to set up the prod environment!

they are running warm backup so that if the main wbi server goes down it switches over to a secondary one but they have not set up the secondary box correctly!

-----

But in the end you sit back safe in the knowledge that if MQ or part of the family has a problem you can fix it but most of the people out there who use the Websphere apps just nod their heads and ignore your advice until things go wrong

---

Ahh well

back to client site again!

yes and no...

Integrating applications is "an after thought" in the application development process, almost as bad as writing documentation
Once the "after thought" is implemented no one realises the application has now been extended beyond it's own boundaries and any change can affect it now.

like before integrating app A and B switching off router Z was no problem... now all of a sudden router Z does matter! (for example...)

I agree but normally you tell the people of the differences and you inform the support / IT departments

and they still dont listen!

Documentation is the hardest thing I ever have to do tho I do agree

I guess, you can call the IT departments first when the application is down!! I have seen this happening at many client sites. For example, the App team is responsible for the application running on a server, but don't have control over the team who deploys the application on the server. If they don't deploy the app correctly then it might not work as expected. Finally, it comes down to documentation and communcation within different teams.
