All,
Thanks for the compliments and yes, my family helps me at Kalahari, so that things go well (I have 5 kids but 2 couldn't come because they are in University).
I can't have all of the sessions be 'advanced' or else none of the newbies will come (and they will just post questions here).
My goal is to have:
- 25% of the sessions for beginners
- 40% of the sessions for intermediate users
- 35% of the sessions for advanced users
Or something like that. That way there is something for everyone.
Now to the flip side, a couple of sponsors have suggested that I add sessions for managers/directors (i.e. because they want to network).
So it is a balancing act (or a headache) as everyone has their own opinion on what sessions I should or should not include.
Actually, most of the session topics are suggested by the speakers. They email me the information, I generally say, 'that sounds great' and that is what we go with. I do take suggestions from people. i.e. The poll for Paul Clarke's sessions and someone here suggested the "Open Discussion About Anything MQ" session which I added this year. So, suggest stuff and I will put it on my list.
If IBM Hursley continues to send 4 speakers and I can get Kalahari to give me Suite #6 for food for next year, then I can free up the Nile & Orange rooms (used for breakfast & lunch). With 2 more rooms, I can go back to 75 minute sessions (vs 60 minutes this year) and maybe add some 'management' sessions.
7 rooms (5 woods plus Nile & Orange) would mean 7 concurrent sessions which would be really cool. Of course, attendees would then be saying "which session should I attend'. Of course, I will do my best to continue to try and have each session presented twice.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix

Oh dear....how embarrassing. It has been pointed out to me that at the MQTC Conference the USB Key that was handed out by MQGem Software contained a very old version of the MO71 manual, rather than the one that goes with version 8.0.0. My apologies to all for this mistake, I'm not quite sure how it happened. Put it down to jet-lag!
Anyway, please download a new version of the manual from here http://www.mqgem.com/mo71_download.html. While you are there may I suggest you also download the latest version of the MO71 itself as I have made a small fix since the conference. Since MO71 is essentially a single EXE it is very easy to install fixes !
My apologies for any inconvenience caused,
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke

More sessions are always good, however, my personal opinion would be to stick with 60 minute sessions. Most of the material we have in IBM is geared towards 60 minute sessions, so that means we are able to offer you more because we have less prep to do!!
You could perhaps have made the afternoon break (the one with cheescake/ice cream etc) slightly longer if you have minutes to spare on the timetable.
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks again for a great conference.
Cheers

Oh no, please don't add more content. My idea last year for the 75 minute sessions was to have 50-55 minutes of presentations and the rest used for Q&A. So, if IBM has their sessions timed out to be 60 minutes then that is fine. I like asking questions at sessions and I think so do a lot of other people. Therefore, don't change anything.

Yup. I didn't like the afternoon breaks this year either, so for the dessert break next year I'm thinking of making it 30 minutes. There's nothing wrong with having seconds at the cheesecake bar.

Random thoughts. Does Capitalware need to be in the name? (What happens if some one else takes over) Does it need to be MQTC? (How about some other groovy unique name & leave MQ in there somewhere) _________________ Glenn |

With the amount of work I put into it, I think I can get my name into the title!

MQTC == MQ Technical Conference, so yeah, MQTC is a good acronym.

Humm, like, "MQ didn't lose my message conference".

Another option - "MQ Conference - For the Persistent and Non-Persistent" |

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

I think the MQTC acronym has gained some traction, so is worth sticking with. _________________ Morag Hughson @MoragHughson
