If you are fresher, which of the technology can give you a better carrier,
WMB or DataStage? |

Considering both techologies are owned by the same company....
It's surprising, IBM have had hold of Mercator/Datastage TX for some years now, and they're STILL separate products.... |

Well, MB V8 mapping node and DFDL are the best of the both worlds. Make your conclusions... |

Neither; I'd use something like Verizon or Sprint as a carrier.
If you're looking for a career, first invest in a good dictionary or a spell checker. Nothing will nip your prospects in the bud faster than a spelling mistake on your CV (or resume in the USA).
Second, whatever you decide to specialise in, get the knowledge. I still have a laugh over the CV I got from a guy who claimed to be an expert with 5 years experience in the UN9 operating system.
I wanted to interview him just to see how long he'd bluff. My peers took the view that if after 5 years he didn't know it's correctly spelt "UNIX" they didn't want to take the time.
That's the limit of my comments. I don't offer advice on careers or personal matters for reasons obvious to those who've seen the carnage of my career and personal life. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

The fastest way to limit career potential is to overspecialize in a single technology.
I say this as a person who's spent the last ten or twelve years making a career out of MQSI.
And there are COBOL programmers with 40+ years of experience who also disprove this rule. |

I'm not sure why the OP makes a distinction between DP and WMB runtime. Toolkit drives both.
My recommendation to a fresher is to program in Java for a decade. Then switch to WMB if you like.
As a fresher, you lack the basic troubleshooting skills you would learn in Java. Just look at all the silly posts on this forum that have nothing to do with WMB functionality and everything to do with basic troubleshooting techniques, which are agnostic to the technology itself.

Silly posts? |
This fresher needs understanding how to troubleshoot basic language behavior:
http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=60436
This fresher needs understanding about how to use Google and Web Services:

This fresher needs understanding of how db connections work:

None of these posters should be using WMB to accomplish these basic tasks. They should get some grounding in computer programming first, then try to move up to an intermediate or advanced skillset like WMB. Nothing wrong with being a fresher. Just I think freshers should get basic coding skills first for about ten years, then try WMB. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

Folks with lesser, little, or no problem-determination skills are, as yet, untrained. This stuff is complicated.
I guess I'd have been a bit more forgiving in my choice of words for those seeking basic assistance. I'd have picked another word. "Silly" implies having or showing a lack of common sense or judgment; foolish. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The word choice does seem harsh. I agree with you on that Bruce. However, the meaning "having or showing a lack of common sense or judgment; foolish" is accurate.
WMB is not a skillset you can learn on a weekend by trying different things. Many times freshers do not understand this. And when we suggest coaching, mentoring, or training, the response is many times "I don't have time or money to do that."
How else to convey imporatance? I'm not sure. The freshers don't seem to take career advice but they all the time want other people to write code for them. Its like that in the US these days, people want free money. They want to sit and watch soap operas and still collect a handout. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

IBM have been working on DFDL for at least 6 years.
I came upon a document with 'Steve Hanson' (occassional poster here...) going back quite a few years. IBM have been involved in the drafing of the DFDL specs. _________________ WMQ User since 1999
