Hi all
I want to have 2 different versiones of Websphere MQ installed in one server.
One version on 6.0.2.5 (this for one application)
One version on 7.0.1.2 (this for other application)
(and I'm having 2 different versions installed of message broker on the same machine).
Is there any way to do it?
(when installing MQ , I only have the option to upgrade... so I will forget the older version).
Any ideas or any help will be appreciated...!!! |

No, MQ does not allow you to coexist multiple versions on the same OS image in any currently or previously shipping releases. |

I'm thinking in rolling back the new installation of MQ (7) if something wrong happens... so I think this would be the commands to execute to store all the MQ information:
saveqmgrc --for MQObjects: queues ,channels,
amqoamd --for permissions
Am I forgetting to store any other important component of MQ?...do you suggest executting any other command?
(MQ is not in cluster) |

Use at least v7.0.1.3 (which is a refresh level). |

With one notable exception.
WMQ for z/OS allows for concurrent installation of multiple versions of WMQ in a single instance of the o/s. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

You cannot go back from WMQ v7 to WMQ v6 and keep qmgr data that has been run under v7. The qmgr has to be deleted and recreated, or a qmgr backup restored. |

Not with 6.0 and 7.0, but you will be able to do this with 7.0.1 and 7.1 ( announced today ) - announcement letter is http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/3/877/ENUSZP11-0483/ENUSZP11-0483.PDF _________________ Philip Morten

I did use the words "currently shipping" with care. |

Now with the newly annonced 7.1 version, you can have two level of MQ on the same server.
But I suspect the lower version should be 7.0.1 at least. _________________ lmd_at_demey-consulting.fr - http://demey-consulting.fr - Paris, France.

Yes, Phillip Morten is very clear on that in his comment above.
You can only coexist with a minimum level of 7.0.1. |

What about MQ Client(s)?
I am trying to browse messages on a V6 Qmgr using RFHUTILC
WIth the MQ 7.0.1 Client installed, RFHUTILC fails with
2046 Invalid option for operation Set
This error occurs using the latest RFHUTILC for V7.
The same error occurs when using an older RFHUTILC for V6.
Uninstalling MQ 7.0.1 Client and reinstalling MQ 6 Client solves the problem.
(this is all IBM code - just RFHUTIL and MQ - no user code at all - for simplicity).
This is not very convenient.
We are in the middle of migrating to WMB7 from WMB6.
So we still have MQ6 QMGRS to support and develop for.
And MQ7 QMGRS to develop for.
So will 7.1 MQ Client fix this issue?
Thanks.
*EDIT* clarified this post based on ZPat's question below. Thanks.

7.1 will only co-exist with 7016, nothing lower.
Co-exist is not the same as inter-operate of course. MQ is generally fully interoperable between versions.
However I don't see your problem, what have the version of MQ client and rfhutilc got to do with the WMB versions?
We use WMQ version 7 client (I recommend the latest version 7016) and rfhutilc without any problems (use the latest rfhutilc as well). |

Thanks Zpat. I've hopefully clarified my previous post.
Regarding MQ 7.1 - does the WMQ 7.1 Client work correctly with a WMQ 6 QMGR? Thanks. |

It works. You won't have all the MQ 7 features available to you since the QM is MQ 6, but it will be functional and stable otherwise. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thanks Peter. And Pat.
Any idea please where I may download the WMQ 7.1 Client from?
Thanks. |
