Hi

I have a little bit of EAI Architectural issue here!!

In our MQ landscape, we currently use MQ Link for R/3 (here after referred to as R/3 Link) which is a standalone adapter to provide connectivity between Websphere MQ and SAP Systems. As R/3 link is going out of service at the end of March 2010, we need to migrate it to some other adapter so that this migration could be done with least effort and cost!!

After browsing through the Internet on this, I have found that IBM Software Group has recommended Websphere Adapter for SAP Software (here after referred to as WS Adapter) as the ideal replacement for R/3 Link.
http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bin/ssialias?subtype=ca&infotype=an&appname=iSource&supplier=897&letternum=ENUS908-055

But implementing this adapter has a basic architectural issue in our landscape. WS Adapter requires a runtime environment such as WS Message Broker, WAS etc, and we do not have any such thing available. SAP directly connects to MQ through R/3 Link from where it is sent to different target systems.

I have heard that Websphere Business Integration Adapters are also stand alone Java Applications. Is that correct? If so, what is the feasibility of migrating MQ Link for R/3 to WBI Adapter for SAP Software?
Please note that I am a MQ Technician, and I have only minimal knowledge of WMB.

Is there any other adapter which we could implement without having to install MB or any other runtime environment and deploying the adapter within it?

Could anybody please suggest a solution to this problem?

It's a double post of this.

Perhaps we need to make the forum guidelines bigger.....

What IS your problem?
price? MB required? no auto migration path? etc

the end of life of this adapter was announced ages ago and so you had plenty of time to come up with something, but now it is march 2010...

Sry for the double post!! I am relatively new to this forum (not a regular visitor) and I though that I should post this query in both MQ Support and WBI forums, as they might be having different readers.

I will better go through guidelines again.

@Michael, yes the end of service was declared long ago, but our client was not ready to migrate it then.

Anyways, the problem here is that we are looking for an adapter that is a standalone application like R/3 link and can be implemented without a WMB. And you can forget about the cost, as that is for our client to take care. Our job is to give options to our client, and see if can be cost effective if possible.

I am not aware of the details anymore, but mostly the R/3 Link is used in conjuction with a broker like product, hence IBM's decision to put out an MB like adapter and sell it also as a standalone product with MB (message broker) as it's runtime. (one development effort 2 delivery models)

pricewise there should be a BIG difference between the R/3-MB combo and just MB, as the use of MB is just the runtime.

MB7 no longer requires a DB like DB2 or a ConfigManager, so from a 'technology' standpoint it can be seen as a 'standalone' product aswell

I hope knowing all this it helps...
