Anyone that might help with this - I'm currently having this issue with this qmgr. It manages to start up for a while then after it drops - the minimum solution to this was to restart the server, but we are running out of ideas since this is affecting alot of people. Could someone plz help.
We are running this on MS 2003 - your help would be very much appreciated

What do you mean by "drops"?
The FDC you provide reference the Windows Management Console, which is just the front-end GUI.
I don't quite understand the problem you are troubleshooting! Thanks.
(P.S. You know you are running on an unsupported version of MQ, right?) |

We have extented support from IBM - the thing is MQ falls down while transactions are processing. We were asked to patch it the latest CSD, but that did help at all

Are the queues rather full at the time the queue manager 'drops'?
The Probe ID finds this on the IBM website. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

What's supprising is that the queues don't get full and after it drop's when we try to restart it, the qmgr doesn't come up. Reason been that other processes are still connecting to MQ, thus it can't start up. |

Worth profiling the SAN link (assumption), and activity on the server, e.g. memory and CPU usage, at the time of failure. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

How is MQ on Windows - it seems like it's unstable, is it advisable to run production on there? |

That question can only be answered by your business requirements, which will dictate the solution, and the solution will dictate which platform is best to achieve the business requirements.
I have worked installations which heavily utilised WMQ on Windows, and it was as stable as the underlying platform allowed it to be. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

It may be worth checking the AntiVirus and Backup schedules for the server. If MQ tries to write to the disk when an AV scan is in progress then MQ barfs! |
