A gentle reminder to the IBMer's.

Can we make sure the inforcentre is available from the same day the Electronic downloads become available.
From my memory (groan) when V7 came out the docs weren't ready for some time.

Best way to get the attention of the doc team is to file a feedback on the v7 info centre.

Does anybody know if there are existing implementations of DFDL? I could not find any. But I found some interesting links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Format_Description_Language

http://www.ogf.org/dfdl/

DFDL only defines how you describe the data, which means the mapper will be IBM proprietary. I do hope the user interface will inherit from WTX rather than Message Brokers current mapper which nobody wants to use.

The mapper and the modelling editor are different things.

In WMB V8, both the DFDL component and the mapper are designed as separable components, and will be used in multiple products.

(I must say, I've used the new mapper a bit and it's pretty nice. It's quite different to the old mapper and very usable. But I do appreciate its ability to call out to custom ESQL functions when things get hairy )

Seconded. I'm quite impressed with the new mapping editor.

Same applies to the experience of modelling a data format - the DFDL editor is a big improvement over the message definition file editor. ( before anyone accuses me of bias, I'm just passing on comments from others ).

... now look, I know our announcement letters are a bit dull (and that's why it's lovely that Matt comes over here to tell you about them!) but the info is all there

WMB v8 electronic General Availability is scheduled December 9th, per the letter; WMQ v7.1 is on a slightly different schedule and should hit your Passport Advantage around or just after November 11th.

As Matt says, we'll be talking all about both new releases at the WebSphere Technical Conference in Berlin next week... looking forward to it. Both the WMQ and WMB teams have done brilliant things (again!).

Correct - although @IBMHursleyUTD is on Twitter as well... and I will go round the corner and point certain individuals at this discussion thread for good measure

The problem is that you're faced with a group of rugged technologists who will crawl over broken glass before reading the documentation. Many of whom are a bunch of colonials who don't need no stinkin' documentation at the best of times.

I now wait patiently for death to come from one side or the other, drawing comfort only from the fact that I saw the dates in the letter...

You're a kindly man. Have pity for those of us who have simply gone round the bend. Or so far north something called "lake effect snow" is going to increase the depth of the wretched stuff.

Me, suicidal? No. But ask again in 2 months....

Is there any upgrade to the ESQL coding language? Something like Objects to hold the state of the messages and store in Broker cache?

Also, is there any new nodes for generalizing the error handling mechanism? New features in these areas would be great.

Broker cache is pretty high on our list but won't be there at GA time. Some folks have solved the problem in WMB 7 using WebSphere Extreme Scale or the XC10 appliance... you might want to investigate that.
For generalised error handling, deployable subflows should help there: encapsulate the common logic within a single subflow, and then deploy and manage it only once for your whole application.
Thanks!
