Hi,

I know there is a queue manager attribute Expryint (sp?) on z/oS that will remove expired messages from a queue without having to browse that queue. I know there is no such option on the Windows platform. So, is the only way to remove an expired message from a queue on Windows by periodically browsing the queue(s)?

Thanks,
Bill

On distributed platforms expired messages are removed by the next read action on that queue. So for a queue that's in use there shouldn't be a build up of messages.

But yes, there's no administrative way of removing them.

Never quite been certain how you'd get such a build up (because they're
cleared out by the next action) but maybe that's just me?

Do I also remember reading something about v6 clearing expired message on any action now, not just a read? Anyone?

If the queue is open, expired messages get cleaned up without further action, in MQ 6.0. Its not documented, you shouldn't rely on it, but it does work. Do a search here, its been discussed.
