Care to elaborate on what you meant by jdbc:odbc going out the window?
Do you mean that it is hard for Java to use an ODBC connection?

No, I mean that the standard jdbc:odbc driver that used to come with the JDK is no longer supported or in the distribution in the newer versions of java.

Doesn't the mqsicvp route the command to the broker for execution?
I suppose the CMP would do the same, tell the broker to test the ODBC connections.. So the CMP being Java should not be of concern..

I don't think that it does. I have several broker build scripts that run 'mqsicvp' where the broker is not running and guess what? they work.
Pretty easy for you to try for yourself you know.
