I am wondering what the MQ world is doing about default transmission queues. My own feeling is that you shouldn't really need to specify one, but I am willing to be persuaded.

What is the feeling out there?

Are they a good thing or a bad thing. Worth doing or worth avoiding?

It really depends on what your landscape is.

If you have a Hub-Spoke architecture it might be a good thing to have one that is hooked into the channel to the Hub.

If you have a point to point I'd rather have messages that don't know how to resolve their destination land on the DLQ than the default xmitq.

Enjoy

Just back from a conference...
IBM would recommend you avoid default transmission queues from a security perspective.
Otherwise if you run a dead letter handler you run the risk of forwarding an unauthorized message.

A dead letter handler could just as easily forward an unauthorized message into any XMITQ, default or not.
