Hello all,
I have a large distributed system and use WBIMB and ICS as my middleware tools. I have to notify the support staff in some urgent scenarios like :

My Queue Manager goes down , My Broker is down, My Message flow is down or a message in the dead letter queue.

I want e-mail or pager or cell-phone alerst sent to the support staff. Is that possible by tivoli. Or is there any tool (that costs less) that does these tasks.

Or do I really need to buy some tools , can I manage with script files?

Please help me decide.
Thanks,
pvemuri.

Yes, you can achieve some of these tasks by writing some scripts. These scripts might not be "full proof".

Queue Manager Availability: Try connecting to the queue manager within your script every 1-5 mins.
Broker Availability: Check for the DF Engine process and bipbroker process.
Message Flow Availability: Message flows run within your EG process. So you'll need complicated logic to monitor these. For example, capture Event messages that are published every time a state of the message flow changes.

But, then you need people with these special skills to maintain your monitoring scripts. If your company is willing to spend $$$ then you can buy one of the monitoring tool for WMQ and WMQI. Candle (now IBM), contact admin, MQ Software has a product that meets your requirements.

Kiran,
Thanks for the reply. Does the tools specified by you or tivoli provide a functionality to e-mail alerts to the support staff. Do they have the functionalty o page or place a call on cell phone ?

We are exactly looking to get a tool that monitors WBIMB components for their availability and notify the support staff.
The company is ready to buy the tools.

Your insight is appreciated.
Thanks,
pvemuri.

Please don't post the same question twice.

See my comments in the other thread.

The contact admin Contact Admin suite is pretty cool.

Jeff,
I do not have any bad intents at posting the question twice. But after posting the question in Monitoring Tools forum, I thought that there might not be many people watching the forum. Hence I had to post it twice.
Thanks,
pvemuri.

You do not post a question where the most posts are. You post a question in the forum that deals with the topic most appropriatly. Using your logic, we should all post in the WMQI forum, regardless of the subject.

You can use Tivoli for BI product to monitor queue managers, message flows, brokers and ICS. The default configuration of this product, once installed, provides most of the functionality you are looking for.

I am not sure about cell phone call, but most of these products provide email notification/alert system.
