Hello all,
I have a large distributed system and use WBIMB and ICS as my middleware tools. I have to notify the support staff in some urgent scenarios like :

My Queue Manager goes down , My Broker is down, My Message flow is down or a message in the dead letter queue.

I want e-mail or pager or cell-phone alerst sent to the support staff. Is that possible by tivoli. Or is there any tool (that costs less) that does these tasks.

Or do I really need to buy some tools , can I manage with script files?

Please help me decide.
Thanks,
pvemuri.

You should be able to do this with the appropriate product under the Tivoli brand.

Whether or not that is the product you currently own, I don't know.

The value of any particular monitoring tool is directly related to the business loss you experience without it.

Consequently, if you really DO have a "large distributed system", and you need to know if any of the pieces aren't working, then you should easily be able to spend as much money as you might lose if those pieces weren't working.

The cost of writing a few scripts yourself is very easy to underestimate. You'll still end up with substantial business losses for things you didn't think of, you'll end up with a lot of ongoing maintenance costs to add new functions and tools...

But, if your definition of "large distributed environment" is "three queue managers and five clients", then by all means write scripts.
