I was looking at /var/mqm/logs/QMMgr/active the other day and it appears that the person has set the maximum number of rotating logs to fortyseven each just over 4meg. So so I have roughly 188meg before messages start being thrown into the Byte Bucket.

The thing that bothers me is the MAXDEPTH of the SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE is 999999999. What I am wondering is, Persistant messages placed on the Dead Letter Queue get written to the logs?

In other words if I get 188 or more 4meg messages placed on my SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE will it fill up my log space and potentially start deleting messages being processed by other Queues and channels?

I believe messages are only in the logs while they are in motion.

Once they're "on" the queue, then they're in the data files, not the log files.

It will start filling up your log space if you have a long running unit of work, and you did not service the messages. Also you did not clear the inactive logs away.. in the case of linear log.
