Hi
We are planning to connect to AS400 from Broker running in AIX environment. Is DB2Connect is the only option or do we have other options? If anyone used DB2Connect how is the performance?
Thanks

Does the AS400 have a server instance of MQ? If so then obviously that would be an option.

We use DB2Connect to issue SQL calls against databases located on the OS/390 from WBI brokers on the Solaris platform, without any appreciable performance impact. A typical SELECT call returns result-sets under 64K in milliseconds. |

From WMQI v2.1 CSD04 and WBIMB v5.0 GA distributed brokers can connect to a DB2 Database Server on iSeries.
In WBIMB v5 this is covered in the WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker - System requirements and select the link to : Please see the Technical Details for further information.

DB2 Database Server - iSeries support
Platforms affected: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows.
Brokers can access DB2® Databases, for user data, on iSeries servers running OS/400 V5R1 (PTFs SI03013 and SI04047 required) or V5R2. This can be done using either DB2 Connect (on UNIX and Windows) or iSeries Access for Windows (OS/400 V5R1 requires PTF SI05361 and V5R2 requires PTF SI05854).
Support for accessing DB2 Databases on iSeries servers is subject to the following restrictions:
The broker database may not reside on the iSeries server.
Globally co-ordinated ('XA') transactions are not supported.
Database stored procedures on the iSeries server may be called when using DB2 Connect or iSeries Access for Windows V5R2. |
Also refer to the WBIMB v5 docs under topic "ah10035_"

Database on OS/400
Database support on OS/400 is DB2 only.
Your OS/400 installation must be V5R1, with PTFs SI03013 and SI04047, or V5R2. If you are using Client Access Express to connect to OS/400, V5R1 also requires PTF SI05361 and V5R2 requires PTF SI05854.
Large database objects (LOBs) are not supported.
Globally coordinated (XA) transactions are not supported.
You can call stored procedures if access to the remote database is provided by DB2 Connect (available on Windows and UNIX). It is not supported if access is provided by Client Access Express (available on Windows only). |
The key points to note are :
* Connectivity by DB2 Connect (Windows and UNIX): DB2 v7.2 FixPak 7
* Connectivity by Client Access Express (Windows only): V5R1M0 PTF SI05361 or V5R2 SI05854
* OS/400 V5R1 with PTFs SI03013 and SI04047 or V5R2 (no PTFs)
* Note, the CAE version and OS/400 version must match, ie they must both be V5R1 or V5R2 _________________ Regards, Ian |
