Which is the recommended way of optimising performance when using a mix of persistant and non-persistant msgs - setting npmspeed(fast) or having separate channels?

Optimizing to what end? To increase the speed of the np msesages? To increase the speed of the p messages? Or to increase the speed of all traffic?
