On a DISPLAY THREAD(*) TYPE(REGIONS) the manual states that threads used internally by MQSeries are excluded, which is fair enough.

My question is do internal threads count towards the IDBACK or IDFORE values or are these seperate and apart from these values?

I am looking for is a quick and easy way of tracking the number of active connections on z/OS (so it needs to be operator friendly). DISPLAY (*) TYPE(REGIONS) seems to be a good starting point but I am noticing that the WebSphere address space (BBOSxxxx) connections don't seem to appear in the output from this command. Are webSphere address space connections somewhere else and do these count towards the IDBACK value? We are about roll out an application that runs under WebSphere and we are wanting to make sure that we have sufficient resources defined (IDBACK) and that we get a heads up if we start to run low before we get 2025s.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin,

I think the threads internal to MQ will count toward CTHREAD parm.

The IDBACK will only be for batch or tso batch (IKJEFT01) connections and the IDFORE is for TSO online (ISPF) type connection to MQ Series.

I wouldn't expect either of the IDBACK for IDFORE to run out of connections unless you have a whole lot of batch jobs connection to MQ for a long period of time.

HTH,
