I just noticed that there are google ads on the side of the Forum Index page. Any idea what they are doing there (other than advertising)?

Hopefully, he'll use the money to attend the T&M Conference in Orlando. Just this week, I got approval from my management to attend.

I'm almost positive I was joking.

Sorry I didn't make a formal announcement, I'm still in the process of setting it all up.

As I've said many times in the past I didn't want this site to be full of banner ads etc, so I focused on getting sponsors.
Unfortunately that hasn't been as successful as I had hoped, and recently Reconda pulled out of their sponsorship.
I have a couple of friends who work at Google and they started telling me about their Adsense program, so I decided to give it a try. You don't have to worry about them "spying", these are totally passive ads, and google crawled my site in order to provide ads that are *hopefully* relevant and useful to us.

I haven't committed to anything, if it seems like it isn't working out I can remove it at any time. I hope that people understand why I am doing this, and that I'm trying very hard to keep it to a minimum, and only show ads that the mq community will find useful...

So Brandon, are you are coming to the T&M Conference this year?!! I didn't see any discussion about MQSeries.net get-together.

How much are you spending on hosting? You can get a dedicated server for $99 a month from ev1servers.net which will be more than adequate.

I use one of their virtual private servers - which are even less expensive - to host my BB.

I took off all banner advertising on my site, I just post some affiliate links in a forum that people can choose to browse and it's enough to pay the bills.

Personally I dislike forced ads on technical sites. Why not ask IBM for some sponsorship? - after all they mention your URL these days.

That fact that IBM doesn't pay 100% of the costs of this site is nuts.

Anyone wanna speculate how many calls to IBM are avoided because the info can be found here? I am sure enough to justify the cost of running the site.

conference: nope, looks like I won't make it this year - for money and time reasons.

You are assuming that I'm currently making more than $99 a month from sponsors/ads

IBM: I gave up on building any kind of relationship with them a long time ago. Everytime I'd get someone to champion my site, it would make it to a particular level of the organization (I won't mention titles) and stop there. It's unfortunate because I'm not just interested in covering costs; IBM could provide a lot more in the way of news releases, official support channels, etc...

it's sad to see how a big company like IBM can be so "small".

I made a personal attempt to someone "high" in the organisation a while ago, but did not even get an e-mail back

I figured in the past with a mobile company, that postmailing the CEO of a company and put the word personal on the envelope, makes somebody at least looking into it and getting an adequate answer.

I was speaking to some one from IBM and they were saying that IBM does not want to sponsor www.mqseries.net because they cannot endorse the statements or any information thats part of these forums.

I dont know how true it is.
