All,
I am trying to install WebSphere MQ 5.3.0.2 on Windows 2003 server.
It is a clean install as I am installing on a new machine which is formatted and loaded with Windows 2003 server.
I logged on as a domain user who is Administrator on that box(server)
I tried 3,4 times installing MQ. I am getting the same error again and again.
One or More problems occured. Review the MSI log file for details. (AMQ4739)
I greatly appreciate if anyone could let me know the solution.
Thank you!! _________________ voyager |

I did not find any errors as such in the event viewer.
But there is an information message which says that
Product: IBM WebSphere MQ -- Installation operation failed.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I could not find any MSI.log in the hard disk.
I do not know how to install WebSphere MQ with logging enabled.
Could you please help!
Thanks! _________________ voyager |

Is your domain userid greater than 8 characters? |

All it has to say in the WMQ Messages Guide is:
Quote: |
AMQ4739 One or more problems occurred. Review
the MSI log file for details. |
Have you searched the IBM Support Website for this error code? _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

I could not find any MSI.log in the hard disk.
I do not know how to install WebSphere MQ with logging enabled. |
Activation of 'default logging' is required for the installer to generate the msi.log file. Instructions on how to do so are detailed on Page 20 of the WebSphere MQ for Windows Quick Beginnings manual.
Activate the loggging feature, try the install again, and check the results in the msi.log file. |

All,
Even after creating the registry entry "Logging" with value "voicewarmup"
on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Logging was not enabled onWindows 2003 machine and the msi log was not written
while installing WebSphere MQ.
I have also tried changing the MSIC config. But, still logging with Windows Installer was not enabled.
Greatly appreciate your help ! _________________ voyager |

I believe the MQ installer always creates a log file in the user's temporary folder, which is usually C:\Documents And Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\.
It's not called "MSI.LOG", though, it's called "MSI<uniqueid>.LOG". _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

All,
I run the following command from the command prompt and WebSphere MQ
got installed on the server. Also, msi.log was created.
mqparms.exe file is under the installation directory.

mqparms.exe /l*voicewarmup c:\msi.log |

All,
I am trying to install CSD07 for MQ and I could not install it.
Are there any special instructions for installing CSD07.
Thank you! _________________ voyager |

You need to understand why the installation is failing in order to fix it.
Again, look in the temporary directory for the MSI fixpack log. Or do the same trick with your named pipe (voicewarmup). _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Could you please let me know, how to install CSD07 from commandline just like MQ installation.
When I tried to install CSD07, many folders namely CSD000001 to CSD00056
got created with dll files in CSD07 folder.
How do I uninstall CSD07.. When I typed the command mqver,
it showing 530 as the version.
I greatly appreciate your help! _________________ voyager |

All,
I could install CSD07 after 3 tries. But the installation created a bunch of
backup folders in CSD07 folder. Looks like, they got created because I
installed WebSphere MQ from Command line using
"mqparms.exe /l*voicewarmup c:\msi.log" command.
Anyway, thank you very much for your valuble suggestions! _________________ voyager |

I encountered the same error on 2 machines. On two others, also with W2K3, MQ installed flawlessly.
After trying many scenarios i found out that the only diffrence between the "go" and "no go" machines was the installation of Windows Terminal Server (under "Add/remove Programs", "Add/remove Windows Components").
After de-installing the Windows Terminal Server, MQ installed normally.
Re-added Terminal Server afterwards, et voila.....
Hope you benefit by this info
