Exactly how long will an MS Server wait for someone to click "OK" in response to a "This Program is not responding." window?
Sorry but I did a Ctrl-Alt-Delelte shutdown on one of my laptops about 20 minutes ago and it's still just sitting there waiting for me to shutdown Explorer. How stupid is that?
Is there a "Shutdown Now!" option. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

Hi,
I am afraid Windows will wait forever...
Happened to me only some weeks ago, when I was watching for traffic-jams in the internet on a friday, then just pressed the shutdown button and left for the weekend. Finnaly on Sunday night when I came back, I pressed the end now button and eventually my pc decided to shutdown.
AFAIK, there is only one 'shutdown now' option which is to press the power button for 3 to 5 secs and make it switching off.
cheers

You can also do ctl+alt+del a few times until it reboots.
Then hit the power button before Windows starts loading. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Pulling the plug is a pretty effective means to getting the pc to shutdown immediately as well. I have had to actually do that on a couple occassions. ctl-alt-del didnt work and neither did the reset button. _________________ IBM Certified Specialist: MQSeries

Unless, of course, the PC has a battery in it. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I don't know if all PCs work this way, but the ones around here will shutdown if you hold the power button down 5 - 10 seconds, regardless of the battery/power/ctrl-alt-del situation. That has come in handy for me more than a few times. YMMV |

They will switch off after 3 to 5 seconds. Not shutdown. prettu sure that's standard. That might even be in the ATX specification itself. But am not sure about that. |
