I recall you recently took the WMQ Security Class.

What did you think of it?

Fair. I had hoped for more, and felt it probably should be a 3 (not 2) day class. The teacher was good. I think this class is very new compared to others, and they have not gotten enough feedback to let them know that it needs more and thus needs to be expanded.

60-70% of the class was SSL. Things missing were Edge Queue Managers, the security hole that SVRCONNs with Blank MCAUSERs expose in regards to Java clients (you had to really read between the lines to get this), why you should use groups and not principles, how permissions work when a user is in more than one group.

Hi,

The class is that new, that IBM Germany is not even providing it yet.

Has one of you guys visited the debuging techniques class (I think that's the name of it)?

Can you recommend it? I am thinking about asking for it...

cheers

Sebastian

I have not attended it, but I looked at the classroom manual when one of my teammates returned. It looks very good. Lots of useful stuff that would actually help in day to day work (i.e. proving its not MQ!)

So it is not a local phenomenom that MQ is even getting blamed if it starts to rain outside

I was thinking of taking one of two classes this year either the Security Class or the Debugging Techniques.

The Debugging one is still on that personal development map, but it's detail page dissapeared (at least from the IBM germany site).

Could it be that it has been 'withdrawn'? Are there regional differences in the classes that are provided? Any idea on that?

Well the Debugging Class is still on the US site.

There are four scheduled:

June 20/2005 - Minneapolis MN
Aug 01/2005 - San Francisco CA
Sep 27/2005 - Atlanta GA
Nov 29/2005 - Dallas TX.

Just doublechecked. Not on ours. All I get is page not found... My manager would not let me fly to the US to get a training class. But I really would love to Maybe it is available in UK. I've got to check that on monday.

But that would not be the only class they don't give anymore in germany. They are also not giving the 294 Certification preperation workshop anymore.
I've asked one of their trainers some weeks ago on my Admin II class. He said, they gave one of them, and then stopped it because it is too much like the MQ 15.

Maybe the same happened to this one.

They usually have a session at the T&M conference that is for 294 preparation. They also usually give one free cert exam with your registration. However, coming to the US in June just to take a test may not fly either.

If you work with MQ some years you don't need any class: when I was on the European Websphere Conference at Munich (München) in last year, I made 4 MQ related certifications in two days.

Well, I already passed 294 without any speciall preperation. That's not the point. I only don't like the fact, that they have classes on their education roadmaps and then if you click on them you get html404 errors.

The WebSphere Technical is in Duesseldorf this year. I think that I will go there. How do you guys like those conferences? Are they a good source of knowledge?
