If you want to install WAS on AS400, why are you looking at workflow installation guide?

In three-tier set up, as I read, the web client will be installed on the same machine where WAS is.

I don't think web client is supported for WAS running on AS/400.

Vennela,

Is it required to install webclient and WAS on the same machine or optional?. I mean is it possible to install them on different machines and make use of webclient?

Web client for workflow is a component that SHOULD run under WAS (actually any J2EE application server). That also means that both of them should run on the same machine. But, the machine WAS is running might be on a box that is different from wrokflow server. If both WAS and Workflow servers are on different machines, then MQ will be used to communicate between them.

Vennela,

Thanx a lot for ur input. as u see the quote, u told both should be on the same machine. in my scenario, WAS will be installed on AS400. I read the webclient documentation, WF installation guide pdf, i see the fallowing:

The Web client is available for the following platforms: Windows, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, and z/OS. It supports any Servlet 2.1/JSP 1.0 compliant application server, for example, IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 4.0, or 5.0.

from above, it is clear that the webclient wont support AS400 operating systems such as OS 400 or OS 390.

If i am right, i should not install the WAS on AS400.

do u have any suggestions or am I correct?

You are right
You may not be able to install web client on WAS running on AS/400 (iSeries). You can install WAS on a distributed platform like AIX or HP-UX or Solaris.

Vennela,

Thank you again. and as I read, all Webspehere MQ and MQ Workflow components wont support AS400. but WAS supports AS 400. so for workflow applications, we may not use AS400. am I correct?

I got a response from IBM representative and is given below:

Quote:
WMQWF is app server independent and supports workflow client applications on WAS (or equivalent) - pre-built web client or custom Java clients. WMQWF Java clients have been tested on Linux + WMQWF server operating systems, which is what is formally supported and documented, that is, no formal support for WMQWF Web client and Java client applications on WAS for OS/400, but a customer should be able to get it running on any Java-standard compliant jsp/servlet runtime such as WAS for OS/400.

So I can use WAS on OS/400 for my webclient. Did I understood correctly??.
