GENERAL JOB PURPOSE
The Middleware Systems Manager provides on-call support for all production applications using middleware components.
Works on systems management problems that are complex in nature and that require a review of identifiable factors. Regularly exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies to determine appropriate course of action.
Produces analysis and design review to middleware development project teams.
Works hand in hand with the business to ensure the smooth operation of messaging and middleware components.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1.Production Support
1.1 Reporting to a senior IT manager the candidate will be required to support the middleware layer on all pan-EMEA systems on a day to day basis
1.2 Troubleshoot / resolve problems as they occur in the Production environment, work with application teams as needed on support issues
1.3 Work with architecture and development teams on new applications and projects from development through to the production environments.
1.4 Build new production environments as needed working with the infrastructure teams, to install and configure all the Middleware components needed.
1.5 Responsible for performance, capacity, resilience, & security of production environment.
2.0 Relationships
2.1 Establish relationships at the appropriate level, with key IS and business users within relevant functional areas.
2.2 Establish relationships with key personnel managing US environments, e.g. to enable communication of progress, changes and issues as they arise.
2.3 Generate appropriate communications, using available media, to keep the IS community and line manager appraised of plans, progress and issues.
2.4 Establish relationships with external strategic partners/vendors when necessary.
3.0 Business Requirements
3.1 Ensure that the strategic and operational benefits of change are understood.
3.2 Ensure that the business requirements of each department are met by all changes undertaken.
CHALLENGES
Due to the high pressure, mission critical nature of this support role where any downtime directly affects the ability to do business the successful candidate will be expected to join the 24*7 on-call roster. In addition due to the nature of the business and the hours worked in the sales and manufacturing facilities the candidate will need to be available to work outside core business hours and weekends.
DIMENSIONS
It is the responsibility of the Middleware Systems Manager to support the middleware layer on all of our pan-EMEA systems on a day to day basis. Troubleshoot problems as they occur and resolve them in a timely fashion. To work with application teams on support and work with architecture and development teams on new applications and projects from development through to the production environments, ensuring the success of each project, by diligent planning, resourcing and then competent execution. The successful candidate will also act as a member of the Design Authority team for recommending, reviewing and certifying all middleware architectures being proposed for use in the production environment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge & experience of WebSphere MQ v5.3 (formerly IBM MQ Series)
• System Admin on one of more of the following platforms: NT, W2K, Solaris, Linux, Tandem (Guardian S Series)
• Mercator Message Broker (v5 & v6.7)
• webMethods
• Tools for managing MQSeries (contact admin, BMC Patrol)
• TCP/IP and networking concepts.
• IT Tools and Applications
• Project Management planning and control
• Client-Server architecture
• IT Industry Trends
EXPERIENCE
• At least 3 years support experience in a high pressure IT environment
• At least 7 years in IT
• Knowledge of Relational Database systems
• Implementation of change at multiple sites
• Building relationships with Senior Management and peer groups
• Ideally will have more than one European language
SKILLS
• Excellent project planning and management
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good interpersonal skills
• Project risk analysis
• "Sell" IT change to end-users
• Rapidly switch concentration and focus as demanded
• Presenting ideas to management and end users in a concise and complete form
CULTURE

• Ambitious
• Must be able to prioritise work / issues
• Self-motivated
• Participation in the 24*7 on-call roster will be expected

Hi Obriencm,
I'm fit into this job position and interested to take this challenging position but I'm not sure if I need a visa for Ireland since I'm a Canadian Citizen.
Please let me know if you have any info. about visa requirements for Canadian Citizens.

I would imagine Canadian citizens would need a work permit for any EU country - why wouldn't they?
You might get some sort of "Commonwealth" preference in the UK, but Ireland is not a member!
If you can claim UK nationality then that is more than enough to work in Ireland. |
