URGENT - HELP big time!!!!!
Have tried to get websphereMQ 5.3 to work on Windows 2003 clustered servers. We managed to get a resource type for the MQSeries bit into cluster administrator, create a queue manager, run theb hamvmqm bit to move the data part of MQ to a shared drive but have trouble adding the MQ bit into the group resources in cluster manager on W2003. The icon shows it seesm to be in question (i.e. an exclamation mark against it). Is MQSeries supported on Windows 2003, now or in the future, and if so any links or software etc would be good and if it is not officially supported but is achievable then that would be helpful also. What alternatives to this is there anyone. Thanks. |

Thanks for the reply, but I think you may have misinterpreted the question. I have 2 windows 2003 Servers, which are supported by MQ according to various webpages on IBM site. The 2 servers act as failover units both "hot" units. I have followed the installation of the MSCS suff verbatim as instructed in the contact admin but am having a problem on the creation of the resource type MQSeries Resource type. This used to be done by the support pac MC74 but is not longer supported and has been withdrawn because that pac is now incorporated into V5.3 allegedly and so it would seem except the command haregtyp /r which creates the cluster resource type is in error even thought the correct dll is there and i can see nothing wrong with it perca. all the other commands etc for moving the "data" part of the manager to a shared drive is cool I was looking for anyone who has experienced setting this up for "real" not just read some theory and whether i have missed something or not installed the resource correctly or that it just doesn't work on Windows 2003. Thanks. |

If you were the person who set up the MSCS installation in the first place then did you have any problems with the haregtyp /r command that creates the MSCS resource type because this is the problem i have the reource seems to be in error but the dll that it refers to is there so have assumed it is a incompatability problem with 2003 or is it a case of removing the resource and retrying because you have the created the resource type correctly. |

No problems at all with haregtyp /r.
What error do you get exactly when you type haregtyp /r at the C prompt? _________________ Peter Potkay

Don't get an error on the command at all runs and seems to do the business but its when you go into cluster administrator and go to create a resource for resource type IBM MQSeries blah blah etc that the resource icon has a blue circle with exclamation mark on it likes it is in error and then errors because it says the resource does not exist when you try to proceed in Cluster Admin. Looked at the properties of the resource and the dll it points to exists in the correct path so don't know what the issue with the resource is, assumed maybe it was not compatable with Windows 2003 server. Have tried to remove resource type and redo command but same thing, not sure where to go from there really. Admittedly not looked in event viewer eyt but any other places to check etc please forward your thoughts. Thanks. |

Call IBM and open a PMR. What you are trying to do is simple enough and supported, so if its not working.....
In MQServices, your QM is stopped and set to Manual, correct? You can't fire up the QM outside of MSCS.
When you create the QM resource in the MSCS GUI, you spelled the QM correctly, and got the case right? _________________ Peter Potkay

Hi
Did you check the NTFS permissions ?
are both computers are under domain? if not you must have the same groups/users on both computer have full control on the shared disk for the fail over to be able to work properly |

Thanks everybody got it sussed you have to restart the clkuster serice to activate the dll associated with the IBM cluster resource and although we did that it did not come back up properley and left the resource not activated but we rebooted the whole machine instead and all was cool. Thanks all is working no worries. |
