Does any one know of any MQ Test tools. Theonly ones I have found are:

QACenter for Websphere MQ
Integra Solstice
MQ Visual Edit (not necessarily a test tool)

Specify your interpretation of testing tools.

What exactly are you testing ?

MQ is a resource and as such application neutral.

I know QAcentre can do a replay to mq messages (ie load testing) but how good it is, yet to be confirmed. Will perform POC on the product on zOS machine...

Hi,

Yes, MQ Visual Edit can do testing / replaying of messages but if you are looking to do scripting or batch-mode testing then may I suggest you try out MQ Batch Toolkit.

MQ Batch Toolkit has all the features of MQ Visual Edit but is designed to be used from a command-line, shell script or embedded into your existing test flows.

For more information or to download a 30-day trial of MQ Batch Toolkit, go to:

Roger,

What stress volumes have you achieved using Put Server? I once performed a stress test (using my own load generators, alike your SIM Server) in which there were dozens of persistent messages per second and 200-300 non-persistent messages per second.

I assume that when running Put Server with queue backup file as message source, it sends all messages from 1st to Nth and then starts over with 1st message - is that right?

Piotr

There is a Java real-time stress testing tool (source code) published in MQ update - check out the free back issues

May I suggest the support pac IH03.

It is billed as a broker display test and performance utility but it is all I have ever used for vanilla MQ and is excellent. The chap who wote it in the States has been happy to update it to meet various new requirements I've had too.

Found another tool that could help me test MQ. This tool is not for MQ only but covers a pretty broad spectrum.

Hi Piotr,

Of course, your mileage will very depending on your server but here's some general stats for WMQ v5.3 CSD08 on Windows 2000 on P4 2.4C with 2GB RAM and 120GB 7200rpm drive.

Put Server writing 25,000 persistent 1.5KB messages :
500-525 persistent messages per second in binding mode
360-370 persistent messages per second in client mode (100mb LAN between the 2 boxes)
