Dead-letter queues are also known as "undelivered message queues". Messages that cannot be routed to their destination, for whatever reason, are sent to the dead-letter queue.

It is vitally important to have a dead-letter queue on each queue manager in your network. Failure to do so may mean that errors in application programs cause channels to be closed or that replies to administration commands are not received. |
You create a dead-letter queue the same as you would any local queue. You'll want to define the maximum message length of your dead-letter queue to accomodate the largest message your queue manager expects to process.
You can assign the dead-letter queue when you create the queue manager (-u parameter on the CRTMQM command) or define it at a later time using the ALTER QMGR command with the DEADQ parameter. |
