I see that there are two options to migrate a configuration Manager (as described below )

Option 1
Stop ConfigMgr
Delete ConfigMgr
Uninstall WMQI 2.1
Install MB V5
Create Config Mgr
Start Config mgr

Option 2
Stop ConfigMgr
Uninstall WMQI 2.1 with excluding data option
Install MB V5
Mqsimigratetables Config

What is the advantage of option 2? If the answer is that the assignments , topology and topics data are preserved in the second case, then what is the purpose of manually recording the Assignments , topology and message flows properties as mentioned in the migration manual ?

Make sure you export your message flows/sets first before using Option 1.

When using option 2 you need to redeploy your message flows/sets to the Broker, so you need to make a note of message flow properties. Take a look at Migration to Websphere Business Integration MEssage Broker V5 redbook. There is a link to this redbook on ths top of this forum.

The migration does not automatically configure all values/settings since some concepts have changed, and consequently certain values have to be defined manually. For instance, the assignment of additional instances to a message flow is handled differently under WBIMB. That value is now defined on the Broker Archive file, which is a resource that is not created on your behalf during the migration process, and therefore requires you to create it. You need to record the Commit count, Commit interval, Additional instances (etc...) if you wish to configure the behaviour of the message flow(s) as they were under WMQI.

Also, according to the manual, Execution Groups are not automatically created and thus you need to record this information (which Execution Groups are defined to the broker(s), and which message flows are defined to each Execution Group), so that they can be manually re-created and the appropriate message flows deployed to them.
