Hello!
Are oracle client and xa library sufficient to provide coordination
between oracle and MQ, or do I have to have oracle server on the
same machine where queue manager is installed?
Thanks! |

My understanding is it is not the Oracle server that needs to be on the same machine but the Transaction coordinator i.e. Web Application Server or Oracle server if the DB is to serve as transaction coordinator.
Now if your DB is not on top of the WAS it is certainly a scenario you should test first.
If you are not using WAS or want MQ to be the transaction coordinator then I believe Yes the DB has to be on the same physical/virtual machine as the MQ server.
Enjoy |

Take a look at Chapter 11 in System Administraton Guide.

The database server can reside on a different machine from the queue manager server, as long as the database client is installed on the same machine as the queue manager, and it supports this function. Consult the database product’s documentation to determine whether their client software can be used for two-phase commit systems.

I am cruuently working in an environment were we are using MQ to manage commit point with multiple ORACLE instances which are not colocated with WBI.
In our case the major difficulty is managing commits to our error database when transactions fail. Of course WBI trys to abstract a lot of this from the user.
Remember that WBI creates connections via the Merent drviers and abstraction layer so I do not know the native ORACLE options that you have available if you want MQSeries to manage the unit of work.
In short, you CAN have MQ manage a remote ORACLE database. |
