We are upgrading MQ 5.1 to MQ 5.3 (on AIX). Will it impact existing code (in Java/C++/COBOL)??

Also, we are thinking about upgrading MQ for MQSI 2.1 from 5.1 to 5.3.
Is MQSI 2.1 compatible with MQ 5.3.

Is anywhere I can find more documentation about all this??

Thanks,
Om

Java,...Yes, local Applications connecting as a Client using Java will have to be pointed to the new .jar files or copies of them made and moved to the appropriate direcories. The same will apply to any remote Clients if you upgrade the WMQ Client filesets.

C++ and COBOL, not sure.

I am not sure.

Here are some good links

You may also want to call IBM and open a ticket with them regarding this.

I would expect that you would at least need to relink with the new libraries.

Enjoy

At least some FixPack levels of WMQI 2.1 are compatible with some FixPack levels of WMQ 5.3.

Just to be sure, you should plan on putting in the most current FixPack for each.

I don't think the old Java clients, even if they are on the same server as the upgraded QM, *need* new version of the MQ jar files. Although it wouldn't hurt to upgrade them to. But its not necessary, as long as you don't need new functionality provided in the new version.

A couple of links that you might find handy:

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/websphere/mqplatforms/supported.html - this ones gives info on what is/is not supported with WMQ

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/integration/websphere/mqplatforms/#mqseries - this one contains some links towards the bottom of the page that give information on the broker products (the link above is also on this page)
