I'm not really sure if this is an MQ Problem or not but here goes...

Saturday I installed CSD08 over MQ5.3.0.1 on my XP-Pro box to try to duplicate a problem another member of this site was having with CSD08.

After installing it, I created a second MQMGR named LAB via command line. Then attempted to open MQExplorer to create some channels.

MQExplorer kept hanging and sending error reports to Microsoft. I checked the Event Logs and AMQERR0*.LOG's and found nothing usefull. No .FDC files were created.

MQService ran fine but I couldn't get a channel initiator to start for the LAB MQManager AMQ4128.

So I decided to uninstall MQ since, as far as I know, there is no way to uninstall just CSD08 on XP-Pro. I used Add/Remove Programs then got out my MQ for XP-Pro CD to re-install MQ5.3.0.1.

Well, here's the deal, every time I attempt to run the C44J9ML1_WMQ5301_XP_Code.exe it fails just after it starts to read the contents of the package. A text box is opened that says "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."

So I did, I had a friend burn me another copy and I am still getting the same error.

I did some poking around and found that the un-install was comparably very sloppy. There are a plethora of registry entries that were not removed and there are MQ executables and .dlls all over the place.

So I called a friend of mine at work and asked him to use the CD that was used to burn my second copy of C44J9ML1_WMQ5301_XP_Code.exe to install MQ5.3.0.1 on another XP-Pro box and it worked.

Have any of you encountered this before? Does anyone know what I should do to cirvumvent this issue?

At this stage I don't believe the error I am getting is an honest asessment of the situation. I don't believe that, "The executable I am attempting to run has been corrupted." I think Bill Gates is lying to me.

On other products I was successful with that:

Use checkpoints to restore the system. Some installations change system dll's, but I never heard this from IBM products .

If this is too late or doesn't work:
- delete all registry entries related to the product
- delete the directory tree
- clear all temp directories
- delete links on the Desktop ...
Reboot the system.
