Next week my superiors will be interviewing and idvidual who has submitted an outstanding six page resume. Unfortunately I will be in Chicago all next week for training so I won't be able to participate in the interview.
His resume lists a number of Certifications, among them are
IBM Certified WMQ Solutions Expert.
IBM Certified WMQ Specialist.
Now, I personally have never been all that impressed with Certifications. I have interviewed people with gobs of them listed on their resume and they couldn't answer a simple question about the use of the ping command.
I was just wondering, are the above "IBM Certifications" valid names for WMQ, if so, how would one go about verifying them.
Oh and get this, his requested rate is $85/hour. If they hire him, I am gunna demand a raise.

Chris,
I would ask if the certifications are v5.2 or v5.3. To the best of my knowledge the latest certifications are titled:
IBM Certified Solution Designer
IBM Certified Solution Developer
IBM Certified System Administrator
I don't know what amazes me more, the request for $85/hour or the six-page resume. Did he provide Cliff Notes for his resume? |

I think he did not put the correct titles in his resume. IT should be,

I was always told I should keep my resume to two pages. $85/hour thats almost $180,000 a year. But the math works out. Three times as many pages, three times the pay. More power to him if he can get it. I wouldn't mind making a six digit salary.

I am looking at http://ibmtesting.prime.prometric.com/ do I have to register with them to get Certification Verification.
I sent an email to ip.helpdesk@prometric.com but their contact link doesn't offer any phone numbers.

| I can't believe that Prometric would be able to disclose who was or was not certified without violating some sort of confidentiality agreement? |

Yeah, that has been on my mind. If so, I guess we will have to rely on the "god like candidate" to provide proof of his eleven claimed Certifications (9 AIX and 2 WMQ).
I was taking a closer look at his resume and he is using $50 words like:
promulgate
plenipotentiary (I am not even sure there is a CCSID available for that one)
alacrity
conviviality
Then on the flip side he includes knowledge of very basic things like:
tar
mksysb
compress
uncompress
smit
ftp
ssh
telnet
If I did that I could probably come up with a six page resume too. Hell I could even add gzip and gunzip to the list.
I'll tell you one thing, if they hire this guy he better do the work of three of me or I will be demanding a substantial raise.
If they hire him and I don't get a raise, I'mma write a six page resume.

Not likely, but if it goes that way I would not be entirely surprised.
I am the only MQAdmin in my Technical Support Group so I doubt they would bring in an over paid contractor to be my Tech Lead. If they were planning to do so, I doubt I would know anything about it until after he/she was actually hired. If that were the plan there would be no warning.
We are in the 4th Quarter. In my experience, except under extreme circumstances I don't recall ever having seen new groups being create in the 4th Quarter. Especially a group of two.

Try sending email to certify@us.ibm.com. I'm sure they will be able to point you in right direction.
There must be a way of validating certificatin. I have not read the fine print of certification agreement , so i'm not sure about disclosure clause.

Heck, I have/had some certifications where my name is/was actually listed on the company website. A certfication has to be verifiable or it isn't even worth the reciept from prometric. Ask for certificate copies. And if you can get away with it you might want to suggest a technical interview be conducted first. The consulting company I work for tech interviews potential new employees before we even attempt to place them with a client. (That's why we have ~97% statisfaction.) Is this guy a lone wolf or is he from a real consulting/staffing company?

Prometric's website says that if you want to verify a certification, you have to ask the test sponsor - which would be IBM.
I seem to recall that part of the ending section of the IBM certification exams was a question asking if I wished to allow my certification status to be released to other people.
So IBM should be able to tell you, eventually, that either the person in question is certified, is not certified, or did not want you to know if they are certified or not.
The second and third possibilities are pretty much the same, in my mind.

But I've seen some resumes like that, where they list certain applications that you'd expect anyone who's spent more than an hour with UNIX to know. "Like wow, you know how to use the LS command! You're hired!"

Nevermind, I pointed out to my Lead that this guy wanted $85/hour and  oddly enough, he decided not to interview him.
