All the Lib's and Kerry KoolAid drinkers always want to ignore that asside from the fact that the US Economy started to decline six months before GWB took office the WTC attack had an enormousely adverse impact on the US economy.
Their still isn't a definitive estimate of exaclty how much the collapse of the WTC Buildings impacted our economy and there probably never will be.
Not just the WTC buildings were impacted if you recall. Half a Dozen other structures near the WTC Mall were condemned for months. Some had to be destroyed. Trillions of dollars worth of computer hardware was lost. Billions of dollars worth or data were lost.
Billions of dollars worth of office equipment, desks, printers, copiers, chairs, tables, clocks, pens, paper, PostItNotes, paperclips, file cabinets, phones, head sets, cubicle partitions, scissors, staplers, staple removers, name plates, cables, cords, cable locks, binders, manila folders, mouse pads, coffee cups, pen holders, etc. etc.... all gone.
Financial institutions and corporations scrambling to find new Desk Space to house the displaced empoyees that were that were fortunate enough to have survived the attack. Hundreds of thousands of man hours spent in sometimes vain attempts to recover data that was lost on the hundreds of thousands of Personal Workstations.
All United States Airlines were shutdown for the day. This impacted departure and arrival times for flights Globally. How many man hours were used to reschedule flights? How many Business trips had to be canceled or rescheduled? How many vacations were cancelled or rescheduled? It boggles the mind. Billions perhaps Trillions of dollars.
The New York Stock Exchange was shut down. This impacted all other Stock Exchanges. Again Billions perhaps Trillions of dollars were lost.
Insurance Companies were impacted by this catastrophy as well and many would have gone bankrupt if Bush had not passed legislation to assist them. I am not sure exactly how much 3000 funerals cost. Asside from the funerals were all the insurance equipment on the equipment.
I was working for a Major Credit Card Company at the time and for a solid month after 9/11 I worked 12 to 18 hour days Building NT and Unix Servers to replace the ones that were destroyed in New York. On many of these nights I didn't even go home. I went to sleep on the Data-Center floor.
Then there is the stagering cost of the clean up of the WTC Mall to consider not to mention how much it's gunna cost to rebuild the WTC.
Finally the emotional impact, uncountable hord of people are still in therapy trying to deal with their loss. I don't want to appear coarse but that costs money too.
The fact of the matter is the economy under the Bush/Chenney administration has rebounded quite well. Unemployment rates are at roughly the same level that they were during the Clinton/Gore Administration.
I've heard Kerry whine about the net loss of 1 million jobs a dozen or so time. Odd that unfortunate as that may seem, nobody seems to recognize how insignifigant that is considering that we live in a nation that has a population of almost 300 million give or take a few million not including illegal immigrants.
The deficit is a bit high but we are fighting two wars in the Middle East and assisting the UN in a plethera of Peace Keeping Missions around the world including Bosnia,.... still.
Almost daily I count my blessings that GWB is our President and shudder to thing about what condition the US would be had Gore actually won the 2000 election. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial.

yes yes yes.
You Americans make me tired. Do you really think that the attack on the WTC was the first terrorist attack in the world? Are you so insular and ignorant? Clearly csmith28 is, and so is GWB.
The so-called war against terrorism has killed many more innocent people than the attack on the WTC, with the indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets in Afghanistan.
Not so long ago, many millions of dollars were given by Americans to the IRA to support terrorist attacks in Northern Ireland (and on the GB mainland) against the population and the lawful government. Thousands of people, civilians and soldiers, were killed and injured in those terrorist incidents, including many women and children. This supply of money was condoned by the US government for fear of losing the 'Irish vote'. Not very far removed from the state-sponsored terrorism so deplored by Bush.
Enough of this. I suggest that this forum be confined to technical matters, not political, and any political posts (including this one) be removed by the moderators. |

anyone is entitled to his opinion and view, this being the General Discussion area, means anything goes.
Although we mainly discuss MQ related things, we are all humans and live in our respective countries.
On major topics (like the US elections whether you like it or not) I do am interested in the views of my fellow MQers whom I communicate with on a daily basis. _________________ Michael

More people die in the United States every year from automobile accidents than have ever been killed by terrorists.
I think we need a war on automobiles. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Okay everyone...
I understand that this posting might be offensive to some.
However, it is in the general discussion forum.
And I'm really against censorship even if I don't agree with what's being said.
That being said, I would like everyone to keep in mind that this is an MQ discussion forum first. There are plenty of other websites out there that cater to political discussions. Most people who are looking for such information know to go to those sites, not a technical forum.
I'll let these posts stay for now, but I might change my mind if it turns into a flame war or becomes blatantly offensive.
Please use your best judgement when posting sensitive content.
