Good afternoon everybody.
We are in the process of planning the upgrade of MQ running on Sun Solaris from version 5.2 to version 5.3. I have searched the archives and also the IBM documentation. There are really no clear cut answers to the problem.
We do not want to delete and recreate the queue managers. If I remember correctly when I did a fresh install on Solaris it searched for previous MQ installations.
Can somebody give us precise steps to successfully implement this upgrade?
Thanks for your time in advance _________________ Cheers!!

Well you'll have to remove the 5.2 version before you can install 5.3.
You should not have to recreate the MQManagers but just to be safe run saveqmgr on them.
When you pkgadd MQ5.3.0.0 any existing MQManagers should be upgraded automatically.
Oh and, while you are at it, you may as well install CSD07. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

This is from page 11 of the Quick Beginnings for Solaris at http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/amqdac06.pdf

Migrating from an earlier version
Always backup the /var/mqm directory before starting to migrate from an earlier version of MQSeries for Sun Solaris.
To migrate to WebSphere MQ for Solaris, V5.3:
1. End all queue manager activity on the target machine.
2. Uninstall the old MQSeries product as described in Chapter 9, “Uninstalling WebSphere MQ for Solaris,” on page 39. Do not delete the /var/mqm directory tree if you want to retain existing MQSeries information, for example your queue manager data.
3. Install WebSphere MQ for Solaris, V5.3 as described in “Installation procedure” on page 12.

It then goes on to describe migrating authorization data _________________ Philip Morten

Don't forget to save the authorities after you save the queue manager.
You can save the authorities using
Code: |
amqoamd -m Qmgrname -s > Qmgrname.acl.sh |
