How would I use the description field? This is my problem. At this time, our company has several "division" offices all over the US, they each have their own servers. When we implement MQ Workflow, we will have one server that they all attach to over the Web. My problem is that I have to be able to identify the work by Division number, so that each division only receives their own work, not another divisions work when they choose a worklist. I thought that I could set up a worklist using input data container values with the worklist query, but I cannot. I think I could use global containers, but I would like to know th "description field" process as well to evaluate it. Can you help me out?
Thanks for listening to all my "newbie" questions.
Ellen

It seems to me that you should be able to do this via MQWF staffing. Say you have an activity called "A" that is assigned to be run by users with the role "CLERK". Now you say that you have CLERKS in 4 Regions "NORTH", "SOUTH", "EAST", "WEST". If when you assign activty A, you assign it to the role "CLERK" and the Region "EAST" it would only show up on the worklists of those clerks in the eastern region.

To make this work you now have 5 roles, CLERK, NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST. The easiest way to do this is if you can assign the "Region" role at the Process level. This would restrict all activities to be done only be employees in the region.

You indicate that you are new to MQWF, I would seek out someone in your company with MQWF experience to help you on this.

GOOD LUCK

Unfortunately, that is the problem. There is no experience with workflow within the company. We are very new and are expecting Lab Services to come in and help us. However, this problem needs to be accomplished before they are expected to arrive. I have tried the solution that you gave me, but I forgot to mention that this activity that I need to "separate" by division is within a block. Is that why I am experiencing problems with your solution?

hat I would really like to do, if possible, is to create one worklist that everyone would connect to, but only the work for their division shows up on their worklist. I would rather not have a worklist for each division. However, if that is what I need to do, then I guess we will have to do it!! Thanks!!!

What you want regarding the worklist is how MQWF works by default, you should have to do nothing to achieve this goal. Your issue is that you most likely are not modeling the process correctly. I really can not be sure that I understand everything you need without sitting down with you and looking at your requirements, which is not possible over the net. You will probably need to wait until you get access to some MQWF expertise. Also, you should be sure you have looked at all of the available doc for Modeling. Be sure to look at the Buildtime manual.

GOOD LUCK
