We use this setup
Main reason for it is that the application supported is written in Oracle and not J2EE.
Their connection to queues in AQ is native. They run the Oracle AQ to JMS messaging gateway. Very few problems. I recommend it. No 32k barrier as with some other bridging products...

That you would have to ask the Oracle guys.
I'm just the MQ Jockey who sets stuff up for them.

if AQ is used, are all applications will be connected to AQ rather than MQ to retrieve queue msgs? |

The oracle applications do not touch MQ. They connect to Oracle messenging i.e. AQ in Oracle native mode. They are not even JMS compliant or anything.
The Messenging gateway is the JMS compliant agent that transports messages from MQ to AQ and AQ to MQ.
Think of it as a 3rd party channel connecting MQ qmgr to the AQ qmgr.
Now there is some setup required on MQ before the Messenging Gateway will allow MQ and AQ to connect. The setup needs to happen both on MQ and AQ.

Thanks fjb_saper for your experience information.
Actually, I am now thinking about sth on MQ failover. However, with limited budget, I can't do hardware cluster. Therefore, I need to find some other ways to implement the MQ failover. That's why I want to know more on AQ. |
