Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone would know what would be the cost of deploying WebSphere MQ (1 server, 10 clients).

Thanks.

Kirani,
I'm looking for the cost of purchasing the licenses for the MQSeries, and any other add-on costs. Assume the hardware and pre-requisite software is already ready.

Thanks!

Well you get MQ Client for free. For MQ Server you need to contact your IBM Sales Rep for getting a quote. The cost varies based on hardware configuration, existing IBM softwares/points etc.

Thanks Kiran! I already have contacted an IBM rep - it's just that they seem to be sooooooooo slow in getting back to me!

There is a "cut down" version of MQ called Websphere MQ Express that might be suitable.

Check out on IBM's web site - should have pricing there as well but large IBM customers will get discounts (Passport Advantage).

Get a new rep. Any IBM Business Partner that is licensed to sell software can give you a quote - and there's a lot of them.

Could somebody give some idea what is Websphere MQ Express ?

I have just read this link..

http://www-306.ibm.com/fcgi-bin/common/ssi/ssialias?infotype=an&subtype=ca&appname=Demonstration&htmlfid=897/ENUS203-258

I have looked at the limitaions:

Limitations

The program is licensed to run only on a uniprocessor machine (that is, a machine with no more than a single CPU)
No more than 10 server-to-server queue manager channels may be active concurrently
No more than 10 server-to-client channels may be active concurrently
No extended transactional clients may be connected to this server
Message size may not exceed 4 MB

So, are these the differences between Express and the regular one?

Thanks

I am just an MQAdmin but from experience.

If you want to install WebSphere Application Server Version 5.0 or greater, install the full Version of WMQ5.3.0.6 or better first then install WebSphere Application Server because if you ever want to install WMQ on that server later you will run in to all kinds of Pre-Requisite failures.

We had to manually copy a number of filesets including all the WMQ5.3 Samples on a server upon which WebSphere5.0 was previously installed along with the Message Broker functionality and I don't know what kind of issues we will run in to later down the road.

I haven't worked with MQ Express but I am not liking the limitations that techno posted.

It was said earlier in this thread that the MQClient is Free and it is. The WMQ Server license cost is based on the number of and speed of the CPU's on the server upon which it is to be installed.
