Anyone installed MQSeries Workflow version 3.5 using WBISF? Any suggestions, links, gotcha's, opinions would be great to know. I don't have it just yet, but what I am hearing is that is a re-packaged version of WAS 5 EE.

Ratan has it right, and it is available now.

WebSphere Process Choreographer WPC is meant to run on WBISF. I know there is an earlier version out, but if you are going to use WPC you will want to be running WBISF.

I do not know of anyone running MQWF using WBISF as the App Server, but I would imagine that there is no reason you could not do so.

If you really need an answer to this I would suggest trying the IBM Newsgroup.

Ratan and John are correct, WBISF is Websphere Business Integration Server Foundation, essentially a repackaged version of WAS. WBISF is really been raising eyebrows eversince it hit the market and this is true especially with folks going with an SOA. Obviously since it's so new, I have never installed it but intend on using it in conjunction with WBI Modeler 5.1, mon and WF3.5.

If you want to learn more about it, the following is a headstart.

Here's an interesting article:

http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/wasid/WPC_Interop/WPC_Interop.html

WBISF is the new name for WAS enterprise edition, you have to install WAS 5.1 first and then install server foundation on top, WASEE was a single install.

The choreography engine (the new fancy term for workflow) has been around for a couple of years, in WASEE processes were desccribed in FDML, this has been deprecated in favour of BPEL within WBISF. BPEL is an oasis standard, and there are several competing workflow engines that use BPEL, the great thing is that pressure is maintained on all the vendors to improve their implementations of BPEL.

Here is a quick list of BPEL implementations:

Jeff,

Good stuff. I definitely think BPEL is the way to go myself, and once WBISF version 6 rolls out, I believe that's going to mean serious business productivity, although I am a bit curious about how perhaps the licensing is going to be worked out.

Anyway, thanks for the link.
