Following an upgrade of DB2 from ver. 7.1 to ver 8.1, our broker processes would not start. They failed with a DB2 "-5005" error. The cause appears to have been in the /var/wmqi/lib directory, where the symbolic links db2.o and libdb2.a were still pointing to DB2 ver 7.1 libraries. Since those libraries don't exist in ver 8.1, I removed them and it seems to have fixed the problem. ... I just want to make sure that this is the correct (or at least an acceptable) procedure before making the same change to our production environment.

Has anyone encountered this same problem when upgrading DB2 with WMQI 2.1? If so, was this how you addressed it? .. Or if not, is there a potential problem with this course of action that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Mike,
What platform is your WMQI installed on? I think there is specific fixpack (FP4) of DB2 8.1 supported with WMQI 2.1 Do you have that installed?

Thanks Kiran.

Actually, it turns out that there's a WMQI script that I was supposed to run but didn't know about. mqsi_setupdatabase. When this script is run, it changes the links to point to the newer lib files in the DB2 8.1 install directory.

I ran the script and haven't had any problems so far.

Cheers,
-Mike.

The mqsi_setupdatabase "command" isn't really a command. It's just a script that creates sym-links to newer library files in the DB2 8.1 install directory. You could probably modify it for linux. I can send you a copy of the script if you like. .. It's fairly straight forward.

It doesn't seem to be necessary for Linux(Intel).

And please don't ask the same question twice!
