After numerous problems with MQSeries 5.3 CDS03, we've finally convinced management to upgrade.
The question we're being asked is which CSD level to upgrade to -- CSD05 or CSD06?
We have a complex clustered environment, about a dozen QMs in each cluster. We have security exits installed, and use support pak MO71 (thanks, PP!) to administer the whole shebang.
Which is more stable -- 05, or 06?
Given our environment, does either CSD offer an advantage?
What value does CSD06 add over CSD05?
What has your expreience been with these 2 CSDs? |

csd05 is what we were choosing when deciding between the 2. csd06 had those interm fixes that were needed on Windows boxes to keep the services up, so we stayed away from it (even though those interm fixes did work).
But if you are moving up from csd03, I would probably consider csd07, since it will contain fixes for problems present in both csd05 and csd06.
Yeah, csd07 is kinda new, but my feeling is the higher the # of csd, the more likely that it is stable, since everyone has been dealing with the same base (5.3) for so long.

FWIW from my perspective, fixpacks 5 and 6 were both very good ones, and as long as you put the interim fixes on as well when applying 6, I dont thing theres anything to chose between 5 and 6 for errors likely to be introduced (and hence I would say go for 6 because it has loads more fixes in).
Of course, 7 is yet another step futher on, with loads more fixes in again. Its too early to know how good 7 is, but I am only tracking one small regression so far, and since any normally get found very quickly by various people, I am very hopeful. |

I tend to agree with you that CSD07 is the way to go. In addition to your rationale, it solves a specific problem we've encountered, regarding channels getting stuck in the INITIALIZING status.
However, more conservative voices than mine have insisted that it's "too new", so apparently we're stuck with 05 or 06.
I have made the argument in favor of 07.
Just have to wait and see how persuasive the argument... |

Jason,
Currently, we are planning to upgrade ONLY our AIX servers. Will we need to concern ourselves there regarding the nw SSL certificates, or does this issue apply only to NT?
Also, should we decide to also upgrade our NT servers, would we be obliged to go through the process of renewign the certificates, even if we have not implemented SSL? |

Are you talking about the problems caused by the expired Verisign certs? If so, as long as you run the newer gskit (use the fp download with-gskit) on the Sun systems, this problem is not an issue.
On Windows, it was never 'such' an issue - The unix problem was that you could no longer add certs to a keystore due to the expired CA's, but on windows you 'just' have expired ca's which cause no problems. Hence you only need worry if you have a certificate which is signed by these specific expired ca's, which I doubt is the case. If it is, all you need do is update the keystore with the renewed ca's anyway.
As far as I am aware (which isnt much when it comes to ssl), your keystores should work as-is if you migrate 3->5,6 or 7 |
