The product is scheduled to go end of life 12/2004 (maybe extended to 9/2005. My question is, what is the recommendation for communication with SAP in direct IDOC format that would replace this product. Are WBI Adapters recommended? Or other stategies? I'm in need of information as I'm about to embark on a project to do this.

I would ask IBM if I were you!
The R3 Link is more a comms link into SAP, the WBI adapters are a bit more intelligent then that so not on one equivalent.
I have not worked with SAP lately, but do recall from a few years back that the 'simple' MQ R3 Link was a lot more stable and faster then the (at that time) available SAP R/3 Adapter from New Era of Networks (NEON as we knew it, not NEON Systems ) _________________ Michael
It has the advantage of giving me XML out of the box. You receive the IDOC from SAP and use the writeXML method and that's it. I then use a text message to write the XML Idoc to a queue.
Inbound to SAP I use a standard Xerces DOM parser to parse the XML and create the SAP IDOC from it.
On the outbound side we bundle idocs by 10. Inbound traffic does not warrant any bundling. It works perfect for us.
