Does anyone have any information on load/stress testing tools that can be used with WMQ?
We currently have three servers running Websphere MQ 5.3 and were planning to do some significant changes to our system to allow for the use of heartbeat and channel disconnect intervals (which are currently not in use) and were concerned about the effect that such a change will have on our server (and network) resources. We have 8000+ workstations that currently connect to these three MQ servers and thus the increased MQ traffic could be non-trivial. Essentially we are looking for a stress testing tool that will allow us to simulate production traffic (about 3000 channel pairs per box) and also to investigate the maximum capabilites of our MQ servers.
We have looked at a tool called Loadrunner that looks like it might be useful, but I was also aware that IBM/Candle had a tool that might provide the type of scalable load testing we require to validate our servers with the new changes. Does anyway have any thoughts or suggestions on this?
Also, out of curiosity, is anyone familiar with a tool produced by a company called Solstice?
Thanks for any input,
Matthew |

Have you looked at the support packs that are available? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Yes we did look at the available support packs with IBM MQ support in Raleigh, but found that they did not provide what we were looking for which prompted us to investigate third party apps. |

CommerceQuest market a LoadRunner extension for MQ testing.
We use a home grown Java application that we run over multiple PCs and it simulates user traffic at various levels.
I believe the source code for this was published in MQ update - look at the free back issues (Sep 99) and also I saw another in the current June 2004 issue.

Hi,
MQ Visual Edit has stress testing tools built into it. I designed it for a smaller testing scale. I have tested up to 50 'Put Servers' running concurrently without any problems.
For more information or to try out a 30-day trial of MQ Visual Edit go to:
http://www.capitalware.biz/products.html
If you like the interface then I could create a 'Complex Put Server' that would control all threads from one window.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix
