We're evaluating various middleware. I'm most familiar with MQSI and ebiz integrator and have also in the past been trained up on PaperFree (would have been Ok if I'd had a chance to use it) and Impact! (complex). I liked ebiz2000, though that runs on Intel only.

Now a colleague shows me Mercator which seems to have all the functions that other middleware might be pushed to provide, such as flat file extracts, event-driven processing and sophisticated field-mappings. It can even cope with the dreaded Swift MT950 message type. Looks like a winner.

I hasten to add I'm just on the point of installing Mercator, so please treat all the above as hearsay at best.

So have any of you used Mercator then opted instead for MQSI ?

If so, are you at liberty to describe the technical reasons for that decision ?

Many thanks as always / Diolch yn fawr

I worked on a mercator project a few years ago, the problems encountered were:

* Event server (i.e. broker) was very unstable and performed poorly on HPUX
* Code re-use involved the use of sub-maps, sub-maps were not re-entrant and could only be called my one process at a time
* On a complex system, throughput was lousy, around 3-4 messages/second

IBM have a very compelling set of offerings at the moment, and it's only going to get better. Expect WBIMB to move onto the WAS J2EE platform. The WBI adaptors cover a massive range of applications.

IBM is the 800lb gorilla, Stick with IBM.
