Hi,
we want from time to time to save (using tar utility) the log files of a Qmgr to be able to restart it in case from an operational copy.
after having stopped the Qmgr and before copying the logs files we wonder about:
1) is it necessary to verify that no mqseries processes are running?
2) other controls to do?
is there other files to save (other than logs files & checkpoint file amqalchk.fil) - to restaur a correct version for the logs and to be able to restart the queue manager?
thanks for help from experienced people

one thing more:
- as said in the manual 'MQSeries backup and recovery' paragraph 4.3.1
must we save the synchronisation system files :
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/sesm/
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/isem/
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/msem/
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/ssem/
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/shsem/PerQUEUE/
and the files
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/AMQCLCHL.TAB
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/AMQRFCDA.DAT
/var/mqm/qmgrs/qmgr_name/@ipcc/AMQRSYNA.DAT
to get a correct save of the logs of the queue manager?
and must we restaur all these files and directories at the same time we restaur the log files ??

Hi KAKOZ,
I recently looked at a new solution called ReQuest, from Cressida - who seem to be sponsors now (gee they must be doing well?) of this forum. Anyhow I seem to recolect that the product does some recovery and replaying of Q;'s - perhaps they might help. I'm not sure if they have a contact in France, but there web site is cressida.info - hope this helps, Frank |

Take care about playing with logfiles ... if you're using linear logs, you can save configuration in the logfiles (thru rcdmqimg command), and backup them after, but for circular files, you can't do it.
You should instead "secure" your data files, to be sure they're always available, so if you "loose" your logfiles, you can just recreate them (recreate a QM with same name), and it will be OK _________________ Alain Buret
