HI,
I have just updated qm.ini log file settings to increase the number of primary log files. (Circular logging AIX MQ 5.3)
The qmgr was bounced but the number primary log files does not seem to have uncreased at qmgr startup. My reading of the admin guide suggested that the new settings would take effect at qmgr startup. When should I expect to see the increased number of primary log files allocated. Will it only allocate them when the existing ones are full ?

thanks

QueueManger takes care of allocating and releasing logs.
you updated qm.ini file and bounced QM doesn't mean that QM sholud create all the log files at startup. After restarting QM comes to know the new settings available. It'll add the logs as per the need.

I. too, thought that the primary files are created immediately; only the secondary files are created "as needed". That is certainly true when you create a queue manager -- all primary files are created immediately and the file space is claimed for the new queue manager. I've never paid any attention to it after changing the number on an existing queue manager, maybe it behaves differently.
