Is anyone familiar with the Oracle Messaging Gateway? It connects a DB internal queue to an MQ queue using JMS. I've posted this question on an Oracle forum but received no replies.
It appears that when the Oracle gateway is started, it connects & opens the MQ queue, and leaves it open. I would like to confirm this. If this is the case, we can monitor the PROCs on the queue to make sure the gateway hasn't died.
I'm working on some tests with the DBAs to confirm this behavior. But I thought if anyone has actual experience with this, it would be good to know.
Thank you. |

I am not sure if this would be a real good montior all by itself. Because, if the Oracle app hangs, you will still see PROCs and also if the Oracle app crashes also, you will sometimes see this behaviour.
P.S.
Is this Oracle gateway similar to Oracle Interconnect which has MQ adapter? |

I agree completely with your statement about this not being the best way to monitor the Oracle gateway. I really don't like for MQ to be the way any application is monitored; it is the app's job to do it. But the DBAs haven't come up with any way to monitor their gateway so I thought the PROC idea might be better than nothing. (Oh, helpful MQ admin.)
I am such an Oracle novice that I can't answer your question about Oracle Interconnect. I do know that this is Oracle 9.x and this gateway process uses an Oracle-produced MQ adapter that is java-based.
In further testing with the DBAs this morning, I now think that the gateway does not connect/open to MQ until there is an actual PUT or GET. Then (I think) the PROC stays open forever.
Any ideas will be welcome. Thanks for your reply. |
