in the name of beauracy, I've been asked to way up the the differences between fix pack 3 and 5. Out client has 3 on all the servers and they aren't all that jolly about updating.
Thanks for telling us when we've already developer c# applications using amqdnet.dll which only comes in 5.
Besides that (and I suppose including more points in the API arena), I'm looking for arguments for the point in why they should use 5, and even the newer 6 as the standard build for their server boxes.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Dan. |

If you call IBM support for anything, and say "I'm running CSD<<not current>>", they will say "Apply CSD<<current>> and call us back". _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Would we?
Fixpack 3 was not the best fixpack in the world, and did include some regressions. If you look at the fixpack download page you'll note the abscence of fixpack 3 in the list (at least, it wasnt there last time I loooked)... That alone should be a good reason to upgrade!!
FWIW Fp5 was a tremendously stable fixpack, with no introduced regressions I know about. It had one small issue which required a very small subset of programs recompiled, which is documented in the memo.ptf file, but that was not an introduced problem. Note I am not saying there were no problems introduced, just that I dont know of any. |

Well, maybe not right off the bat, but it would come up...
Especially if you were otherwise stumped... _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Nah - I'm sure we would ask for loads of traces, dumps, recreate information first
(Just in case anyone cares this is a joke - we really, really, really (get the point?) only ask for docs for a good reason!) |

out of interest, is there a way for me to still use the .net interface from CSD05, and then install what i need to get the interface working with my application, onto a CSD03 server? |

No. You could use a 5.3 fp5 client to talk to a 5.3 fp 3 server, but you cannot use the supported .net interface against fp3 (it has common services changes to support it).
You could look at the older support pack version (ma7p, or something like that) which should work, but is unsupported and a lot older / different to the fp5 one. |
