We have a production system running AIX5.1 and MQ 5.3 which the queue manager has to be running all the time and it is not possible to shutdown the queue manager.
I have read the backup recovery redbook. It is desirable to use linear logging, stop channels, run rcdmqimg, stop queue manager, backup files and housekeep old logs.
Tell your management that they can either accept a fixed amount of planned downtime for you to properly back up this machine, or they can accept an unknown amount of unplanned downtime when something goes wrong.
It's your job to identify the risks to them, and their job to decide what risks are acceptable. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general.
