Hi

We are migrating to WBIMB V5. For the Versioning software we have the choice of CVSNT, Clear Case or MS SourceSafe.

I would like to go with CVSNT however the company are nervous when it comes to OpenSource software in development and production. Also there seems to be an issue with virus software and CVSNT on W2k, does anyone have experience of this issue or used CVSNT in production?

Clearcase I have been lead to believe is quite expensive. Has anyone used it in production where there any issues .

MS SourceSafe we use this in development environment has anyone used this for WBIMB? where there any issues?

Any feedback on any of these products would be great.

Thanks

Hi,

We're using CVS for both WBIMB and WSAD. Our change management chaps were a bit apprehensive but they've come round to it now. We've had no problems with it really.

Regards,

Derek.

CVSNT does not like antivirus programs on it's server.

Also, CVS only allows 'multiple stream' development, i.e. multiple users can check out code and merge their changes. Personally, I think this is great for OSS projects, but I do not like it for corporate development.

Does it works also with Visual SourceSafe? If yes, where can we find information?

Another possibility is PVCS Version Manager from Merant.

We have successfully integrated WBIMB with PVCS - not sure how it compares on price with ClearCase though.

I had located the sourceforge.net/projects/vssplugin and there are different downloads for different levels of Eclipse. For the life of me I can't figure out which level of Eclipse is shipped with the 5.0.

Why are you responding to a message that's a year old?

We've been using Subversion at our site for 18 months now without any hick-ups. Here's some of the 'Sales Talk' about the product:
Subversion is the "compelling replacement of CVS"
Simple, license free database implementation
Multi-repository capability (geographic distribution of resources)
Optimistic locking

...and the link:
http://www.polarion.org/index.php?page=overview&project=subversion

In my search of CVS, found this thread from pottas,

does Subversion overcome the issue of 'multiple stream' development, i.e. multiple users can check out code and merge their changes in contrast to CVS ?

and I guesss Subversion does provide the eclipse plugin ??

any thoughts!!!

thanks
