I would like to ask about the difference between role and teamlist in MQWF?
In case, I got a number of people being assigned under the same role, will they got the same worklist with the same workitems? or otherwise, i could assign the workitem to only one person under the same role only? |

Sorry for making the typing mistake!
It should be "team worklist" instead of "teamlist". |

Hi,
I just read from IBM's redbook called "IBM MQSeries Wor flow: Staff Assignment Techniques" and it said "In MQWF, the term role is used to designate a job function that may be associated with a person. A person may be a member of zero or more roles."
On the other hand, team worklist is like "a ¡§special¡¨ user IDto perform the same work assignment function that roleis typically used for."
Also it said "Another way to think of the difference between the use of roleand team worklist is that with role you are moving work to people, whereas with team worklist you are moving people to work -- which is inherently more flexible and requires less system resource."
And I am not quite understand what is the difference and when to use which one?
Or should I put the question in another way, if I assign several people the same role, will they got the same worklist and workitems?

I've never read this Redbook, so don't know what they say in there. But MQWF does not define any type of object that is called a TEAM Worklist. SO I really have no clue what they are talking about.
IF you have 3 people in Role A, and you assign Activty 1 to "Members of Role A"
Then at runtime 3 workitems will be generated, one for each user who is a member of Role A. TOMORROW, if you have added 2 people to Role A, and <b>new<b> workitems are created for Activity 1 then you will get 5 workitems

So what you mean the 3 workitems generated for the 3 persons under Role "A" would be referring to the same piece of work, am i right?
And when one of the 3 persons start working on the item, will other people also under Role "A" not able to work on this item?
On the other hand, can I only send the workitem to only one of the person under role "A" at one time? Or I should have put these 3 persons under 3 roles instead?

You are right... 3 workitems for the same activity.
You could do what you say... But Why?

I would like to do so, because there maybe say 3 sales team and and the sales manager leading the 3 teams will be of the same role but are not supposed to view the workitems of others
Also, do I need to know exactly who i am sending to, in case I only want to send to one of the 3 persons under same "ROLE"

If you are not going to send to all the persons in a Role, then you cant use roles.
