Is there a difference in the setup of MQ on an NT 4.0 BDC and an NT 4.0 Member server? I used a 3rd party tool from Aelita to Demote the NT BDC in preparation of a Server 2003 upgrade but now MQSeries no longer works. I verified that the local mqm group and users exist on the Member server. All services start but the Channel Initiator. Any advice?

Check if there are any open handles on the SYSTEM.DEFAULT.INITIATION.QUEUE and if there are this is why it is failing.

The first thing I would say is are you *sure* the chinit isnt starting - Check the task list for runmqchi processes, there should be one per qmgr. Just because the gui doesnt list it doesnt mean it isnt running.

I guess the big difference is the accounts database, where musr_mqadmin would have been a domain account but local to the BDC. I dont know how this tool demoted it, but you probably need to ensure the security is correct on the member server (probably local musr_mqadmin, and dcomcnfg configured correctly) - "amqmsrvn -regserver" might help here

How is it failing? Any FDC's / error messages? How are you starting the qmgr - command line or service?
